La Cucaracha Traveling Exhibit

This exhibit features some of the top stories and issues from the era - 1976-1983 - from the pages of La Cucaracha.

La Cucaracha was a Chicano newspaper published in Pueblo, Colorado. It was started by Juan and Deborah Espinosa, David Martinez and Pablo Mora. The founders were students and activists at the University of Colorado Boulder during the Chicano Movement (early 1970s). The Chicano Movement in Colorado represents the fight for equal rights by people of Mexican descent in the United States. Juan, David and Pablo worked together on the El Diario de al Gente newspaper during their time at the university. After leaving CU Boulder, they started publishing La Cucaracha in May of 1976 and stopped publication in November, 1983. Topics covered include: Police brutality, education, land rights, healthcare, local and national news.

This exhibit features some of the top stories and issues from the era - 1976-1983 - from the pages of La Cucaracha. The panels were designed and coordinated by Juan Espinosa. David Martinez, Pablo Mora, Deborah Espinosa, Rita J. Martinez and Jose Esteban Ortega contributed valuable input.
