PCCLD's Local History and Genealogy Dept. invites Girl Scouts to earn their My Family History Badge at a free public event on the third floor of Rawlings Library
Attention Girl Scout Brownies! The Local History and Genealogy Department at the Rawlings Public Library invite you to explore family stories, learn where your family is from, make a family tree, talk about objects that are part of a family's story, and how to share your family stories with others! They will also take Girl Scouts on a tour of the department, present about Genealogy, and show how library materials can help anyone learn more about their history.
The Rawlings Library Local History and Genealogy Department has a mission to preserve family history by indexing records, supporting research, and contributing to public genealogy causes.
In preparation for this event, please have your Girl Scout:
Interview a family member about where they were born
Learn about where their family immigrated from
Learn about the kinds of jobs their family have/had
Discover a family heirloom – so they can tell everyone what it is, who it came from, and why it’s important to the family (maybe take a photo of it and print it out for everyone to see)
And…anything else they can learn about their family history to share with the group
These are steps of the badge that Girl Scouts will be working on at the event.
My Family Story badges will be distributed at the end of the event.
